What is SMAS lifting?

In order to answer this question, we should explain what SMAS is. SMAS is an abbreviation for the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System, which is a thing but a strong sheet of the muscles and fibrous tissues under the skin of our face and neck. It allows the movement of the face and connected to the bones of the skull.

So SMAS lifting surgically tightens this sheet of the muscles and fibrous tissues along with the skin, which allows natural-looking long-lasting results.

Who need it?

The ideal patient is the person who wants to have a more fresh and young appearance and for whom non-surgical methods are not sufficient at all or not sufficient enough. this is the list of aging signs that can be treated with the SMAS lifting:

-Deep nasolabial folds

-Deep marionette lines and/or wrinkles around the mouth

-Various types of wrinkles on your forehead and around your eyes

-Tired looking eyes due to the ptosis

-Sagging cheeks and/or jawline

-Double chin or folds

What are the timing and other details of the SMAS lifting?

A SMAS lift surgery is the on that performed under general or sedation anesthesia and usually takes about 2 to 3 hours. During the surgery, the surgeon will tighten and lift your SMAS and remove the excess of the skin tissue. Professionals at View Plastic Surgery will customize the SMAS lift to fit your individual facial features. In most of the cases hospitalization is not required, thus the patient can get home the same day. The stitches will be removed in 10 days after the surgery and the recovery will be finished in 2 to 3 weeks after that.

What are the key points of the recovery process?

There are certain types of precautions that should be followed after the facelift surgery. First of all the patients should wear a special face bandage that helps with the healing process by minimizing swelling and bruising.

Sometimes cannulas — tubes that are needed for fluid and blood draining are left for some time after the surgery.

There is a possibility of having a numbness around cheeks, in front of the ears and temple area which should pass in a couple of months after the surgery. A careful massage can help to bring the sensitivity of your skin but you should start it only after your surgeon will confirm that the face is healed enough for this.

Pain medications will be prescribed for you to reduce the discomfort and possibility of headaches in the first days after the surgery.

The usage of the sunblock is strongly required during the whole recovery process

You should avoid the gym and any kind of heavy activity for the first 1.5~2 months after the surgery.
